Resumen

This new century represents a challenge for the eight countries that in the year 2004 joined the European Union, these countries are Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia. Agriculture is the topic of interest in this thesis where we analyze the big challenge that the enlargement of the European Union market to integrate de agricultural sectors of these eight countries represent. There will be an extra 4 million farmers and the cultivated land in the European Union will rise significantly. To understand the importance of these topic, we divided the thesis into three different chapters in which the first one is dedicated to the history of these eight countries from 1945 when the communist regimes where place up to 2004 when these countries were democratic and joined the European Union. We also talked about the agriculture of these countries and their areas of opportunity. Chapter two is dedicated to explain the part of the European Union that is dedicated to agriculture that is the Common Agricultural Policy. Here is where you can find more detailed information about how it works, and why is it so important at the European Union level.

In the last chapter then we did a recount of events where we putted together all the information of the past and the present to conclude and confirm the hypothesis of this thesis. Agriculture in the world is so important that is worth it to study it in a more detailed way.

Key words: European Agriculture, Eastern European, Union Members, History Communism.
