Resumen

Leadership styles as well as coaching types are variables that lately have been receiving significant attention in the management literature due to its impact in the performance of sports teams or enterprises. The way a leader-coach communicates to the followers may dictate the results of these efforts and have a positive or negative influence of the subordinate. However, there isn´t a best style of coaching-leadership, but a suitable one depending on the organizational objectives and the diversity of the team members which makes it even more complex.

At the moment, the cheerleading team of Universidad de las Américas Puebla is in a succession period, where the old coach is graduating and a new one should be selected. The criteria of the selection should be based on her abilities, style of leadership and type of coaching, hence this work aims to present the suitable type of coaching-leadership model that the new coach of the Aztecas Pom-Pom Girls team needs.

Five candidates out of thirty-four were selected for the purposes of this study, in one hand there´s a mixture of leadership styles for each candidate where two of them complement and can learn from each other to assess the needs of the Aztecas Pom-Pom Girls cheerleading team.

Palabras clave: coaching, leadership, cheerleading.
