Resumen

This research highlights the main technical and cultural factors, characteristic of the Tlaxcala region, that affect positively or negatively the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance standards in a paper industry during a technology transfer project. The manufacturing philosophy of this company is presented in order to understand the expectations of the organization towards this kind of engineering projects. A Case Study is presented in which the whole document is summarized, establishing the facts and stating the recommendations that are given to enhance the technology transfer project abiding totally to TPM standards. One chapter is totally devoted to analyzing the social and cultural traits of the region, linking them to how the technical personnel react when faced to manufacturing standards. Another chapter is devoted to analyzing how, from the Mechanical Engineering point of view, the technology transfer project could and should have run smoother. A brief description of Tlaxcala´s history along with social, economical and demographical facts is also provided in the first chapters. The foundations of TPM and what it is about is also presented.
